how i use hand drawing

Color coded narrative paragraphs keyed to color coded sketch: allows the hand drawn to serve as a more formal presentation.

Millwork time portal in carved relief
The historical woodwork found in the early 20th century headquarters lobby is replicated in this oak portal. The woodwork includes a hand carved pediment on either side. The carvings pay homage to the botanical illustrations that once dominated the pursuit of medicines. In this way there are expectant nature forms of that historical period, yet the plant and flower selected are rooted in the history of botanical medicines.

Collage of Lilly leader quotes over time
Leadership quotes, from the leadership personalities framed across the hall, are displayed on the six bands of the arc. Each leader is depicted visually from archival photography and paired with excerpts from their shareholders letters. Those quotes are headlined with their over arching topic and are representative of each leader’s thrust, focus, and contribution.
Puck mounted panel is key to succeeding leaders
The large puck mounted panel provides the key to who’s who and when they served. The content replicates the adjacent wall display at a smaller scale and offers all the narration that embellishes and explains the timeline while identifying each persona in that nearby exhibit.

Framed photographs of succeeding leaders
Here we find all those leaders who followed the initial three generations of Lilly men. Each “succeeding” leader is presented twice; once as a singular portrait and again in a setting with fellow employees. The frames for each match the time period of their service. The large puck mounted panel provides the key to who’s who and when they served.
