the journey to experience design

Digital space becomes your liaison to dimensional space
Digital space is being fused with the experience of dimensional space. The experience of dimensional space by 21st century humans is being disrupted by the supercomputers now held in every hand. We engage spatial environments remotely before we choose to visit them. We record our visit so we can post it digitally and revisit that experience. Digital media is changing the way we process perception and experience architectural space.

The actual audience for spatial experience may now be the phone in hand rather than the person holding it. The way we interact with each other and the spaces we inhabit has been profoundly affected by the supercomputer we hold so dear. It’s not far-fetched to consider the smartphone as the primary conduit connecting the building’s presence with the owner of the phone using the space.
Designing for both individual experience and collective encounter
Experience design will require more than empathy for the individual: digital media will require us to think in terms of group experience. Space that speaks to one individual may also need to simultaneously engage many as a community — in the flash of a moment or in a build up over time. The building becomes vehicle for shared experience and facilitates collective conversation, critique, consumption, contribution.
