the journey to experience design

Imaginative spatial storytelling is now a searched for expectation
Spirits invade our spaces
Our Modern Cave Painting analogy is now extended to include spirits! Aren’t we now able to summon digital apparitions from the ether to partake in our experience settings. Don’t these apparitions now live in every (wifi) building (along with some phantom Pokemon creatures). Don’t they magically transform us into disembodied blue dots and red pins... “Technology indistinguishable from magic” finds its way into the architectural design equation.
The market has dialed up desire
We are responding to the market’s desire for transformative experiences in spatial settings. But we should realize that the western world’s experience economy has dialed up expectations for 24/7 accessibility to experience. Each and every moment offers an abundance of experience clamoring for our attention. The historic role of settings and ceremonies as transformative experience is now multiplied 100 fold — a daily expectation sought across multiple physical settings. A magnetism to physical space that pulls us out of our screens. A cooperation between dimensional space and digital space. A leveraging of each to create experience.

Digital content is increasingly as important to experience as spatial context.
